The Fifth Vlba Calibrator Survey: Vcs5
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper presents the fifth part of the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) Calibrator Survey (VCS), containing 569 sources not observed previously with very long baseline interferometry in geodetic or absolute astrometry programs. This campaign has two goals: (i) to observe additional sources which, together with previous survey results, form a complete sample, (ii) to find new strong sources suitable as phase calibrators. This VCS extension was based on three 24-hour VLBA observing sessions in 2005. It detected almost all extragalactic flat-spectrum sources with correlated flux density greater than 200 mJy at 8.6 GHz above declination −30 which were not observed previously. Source positions with milliarcsecond accuracy were derived from astrometric analysis of ionosphere-free combinations of group delays determined from the 2.3 GHz and 8.6 GHz frequency bands. The VCS5 catalog of source positions, plots of correlated flux density versus projected baseline length, contour plots and FITS files of naturally weighted CLEAN images, as well as calibrated visibility function files are available on the Web at http://vlbi.gsfc.nasa.gov/vcs5. The Third Vlba Calibrator Survey — Vcs3
This paper presents the third extension to the Very Large Baseline Array (VLBA) Calibrator Survey, containing 360 new sources not previously observed with very long baseline interferometry (VLBI). The survey, based on three 24 hour VLBA observing sessions, fills the areas on the sky above declination −45 where the calibrator density is less than one source within a 4 radius disk at any given di...
متن کاملVLBA Calibrator Survey: Astrometric and Image Results
Positions and maps of 1608 new compact sources were obtained in twelve sessions observed during 1994–2002 at the VLBA network at 8.4/2.3 GHz. These sources are recommended for use as calibrators for phase reference imaging and as geodetic sources for astrometric/geodetic VLBI applications.

This paper presents the fourth extension to the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) Calibrator Survey, containing 258 new sources not previously observed with very long baseline interferometry (VLBI). This survey, based on three 24 hour VLBA observing sessions, fills remaining areas on the sky above declination −40 • where the calibrator density is less than one source within a 4 • radius disk at a...
متن کامل21st Century Vlbi: Deep Wide-field Surveys
A 20-hour VLBI observation with the NRAO VLBA and GBT in the NOAO Boötes field reaches an rms noise of 9 microJy per beam at 1.4 GHz. Three sources were detected at 10-milliarcsecond resolution within the GBT primary beam of FWHM 8.6, including the 20milliJy calibrator and two sub-milliJy sources. By tapering the visibility data, portions of the VLBA primary beam of FWHM 29 were imaged at poore...
متن کاملSub-Milliarcsecond Precision of Pulsar Motions: Using In-Beam Calibrators with the VLBA
We present Very Long Baseline Array phase-referenced measurements of the parallax and proper motion of two pulsars, B0919+06 and B1857–26. Sub-milliarcsecond positional accuracy was obtained by simultaneously observing a weak calibrator source within the 40′ field of view of the VLBA at 1.5 GHz. We discuss the merits of using weak close calibrator sources for VLBI observations at low frequencie...
